Once the draft was over I was reviewing the depth of other NHL teams. One team that struck me as deep in prospects and at the NHL level is the St Louis Blues. It appears if Sakic changed his demands to a more prospect focused package for Duchene, Colorado could import some good talent and fill multiple holes in the organization.
Colorado would need to take back salary in any deal with the Blues. A player like Carl Gunnerson who makes $2.9 million for two years would be a good place to start. Then the Avs could look at the long list of prospects and ELC's that St Louis could potentially offer such as:
Jordan Kyrou RW
Vince Dunn LD
Jake Walman LD
Ville Husso G
Zach Sanford LW
Tage Thompson RW
Robert Thomas C
Klim Kostin LW
Ivan Barbashev C
Jordan Schmaultz RD
Robbi Fabbri C
While this list lacks the defensive stalwart that Sakic is looking for it certainly provide the opportunity to plug other holes in the organization. A package of Fabbri, Dunn (Second Pairing D), Kyrou and Kostin would fill a lot of needs for Colorado. I was surprised that the Blues have built up so much depth. |

I was wondering who the frank you were talking about ,then I happened to go into the pens blog and holy shat!,what a franking joke is this guy a punk or what? Matta ,then some posters saying that he wouldn't trade him straight up for Duchene! This is actually ONE of the reasons why this site H.B.has the reputation that it has!..kids and bad writers, but I've found quite a few knowledgeable hockey fans, interesting guys and have had some great hockey talk and idea's on different teams needs! Man you must be getting franking tired of the nonsense trade proposals for Duchene! ..cheers and best of luck |

Good Lord. Let's get duchene and give up nothing. It's not rocket science what teams need to give up to get duchene. Carolina step up and make it happen. |

LOL.
Coga what does Colorado's D look like right now?
In your opinion who's your best D? I always liked Erik Johnson but it's only my perception.
Barrie seems to be a nice fit for a team like Pittsburgh. |

Johnson is probably the teams best overall Dman
Barrie is easily the best offensive Dman
Zadorov has all the tools to be such a beast, hes key to the current Dcore.
I actually like where its at, getting rid of Beauchemin, not resigning Weircoich, Gelinas, Tyutin, lots of new blood coming in. Barberio is a nice 3rd pairing Dman, and Mironov (Avs draft pick that came over from Russia) will be very interesting to see. Hits like a truck and is a lot better skater apparently than first reported. He could make a few impressions this season |

Seems like odd puzzle pieces.

Nesterov would be a decent depth signing, same as Clendening.
I really think comes down to the Duchene trade
Zads - EJ
Dutch Trade (De Haan?)- Barrie
Barberio - Mirinov
UFA Signing (Nesterov/Clendening/etc) Siemens
The fact they QO Siemens, I think he is going to be a depth Dman this year |

Mirinov may start the season in the AHL, although I doubt he stays there very long. Remember there is still going to be some healthy competition between Bigras (Sakic expects him to compete for a full time role this season), Siemens, and Lindholm for that final spot. If any of those players including Mirinov impress this offseason we may only need one or two UFA signings for depth.
I think our only guarantees to start the season are:
Zads Johnson
x Barrie
Barberio x
I want the AVS to come out this year and shock the hell out of everybody. They've quietly cut a lot of the older players from the team and in the process have gotten a lot faster and younger. By no stretch has this been a perfect offseason, but it does seem to be progressing in the right direction. The Avs will never get any credit for these subtle moves but if they continue with this trend and get a solid return for Duchene we could see this team come around sooner than later. |

I agree, those 4 are the locks for next year.
I think Bigras is in the AHL to start, he had such a rough development year, he needs to time getting big minutes unless he shows up at Camps and just dominates.
I really think Mirinov is on the opening night roster, it would be a smart move to have im on it regardless just to help lure any other russian khlers over.
The D core will be interesting storyline this offseason, they really came make it something unique in a short order

Agreed that I would like to see the Canes get more invested, but does not seem like it. Not sure the Pens of Preds will offer the right pieces. |

I have mirnov in the line up. As well as bigras (might do a stint in ahl, but I look for him to come into camp ready) I also have them either signing a weicoch type player (bench warmer) or getting a dman in a duchene deal ( though I'm not apposed to getting a top 6 forward as the centerpiece and having the d prospect go to the ahl) so my non duchene dman line up is:
Brigas-ej
Zads- Barrie
Mirinov- barbs
X ~ WITH LINDHOLM BEING FIRST CALL UP
With duchene dman as a centerpiece
Zads-ej
9 trade-Barrie
Mirinov-barbs
X ~ WITH Bigras and lindholm being first call ups |

Carolina doesn't want to give up what Sakic is asking for only two years of Duchene. |

Canes aren't going to give up what Sakic wants for only two years of Duchene.
More likely to just wait and try and sign him as a UFA. |
